Sleeping the night in silent spread Deep in dreams of winter dread. 'Till woken by a strange daylight Reflected from the snow - lay white. It lights the slowly waking room Like shafted beams from frosty moon. This magic winter wonder land Lasts till touched by human hand.
Gordon Greenall was born and raised in Chipping Campden and was educated firstly at St James' primary school and formerly at the Campden Grammar School. On leaving school he was employed in the building industry, qualifying as a carpenter.
In 1979 aged of 33years he joined the defence fire service. At this time he also joined the Gloucester Fire and Rescue Service in Chipping Campden, as a retained firefighter where he became the Station Commander in 1991. He retired from the Fire Service in October 2000.
He was a blood donor for 32 years, making 69donations.
On retirement he joined the Campden Voluntary Help Group of which he is still a member. He delivered meals on wheels for seven years.
He also joined the local history Society (CADHAS) and became an active member of the local history archive group and family history group where he has been involved with research and publication work.
He is presently involved with a forthcoming CADHAS publication.
At this time Gordon was invited to join a local creative writing group.
He is a trustee of the Campden Joint Charities Trust.
He was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukaemia in May of 2004.
His first book of poetry, 'Emily and other Poems', was published in September 2005 solely to raise money for (LINC) Leukaemia Intensive Chemotherapy Fund.
His second book of poetry 'Cool is the Reaping', was published in April 2008. Again with the sole aim of raising money for LINC.
He became a founder member of Creative Campden, a group of local creative artists and writers. see links
